What We Do, and Why

Janya is an arts initiative and production company rooted in South Asian classical arts — but we’re not here to preserve things in amber. We want to build on the wonderful foundation provided for us by countless organizations and decades (and generations) of work and put our own spin on things.
Our goal is to create meaningful, curated experiences that connect artists and audiences across disciplines, geographies, and generations. We’re especially focused on building visibility and access in underrepresented regions like the Midwest.
Our work centers on three questions:
How do we support artistic creativity & growth with depth and intention?
How do we invite audiences in — not just as viewers, but as participants?
How do we build something lasting, without compromise and emphasizing collaboration?
Janya was created to explore these questions — through concerts, productions, workshops, collaborations, and many more creative events that reflect artistic excellence and create a welcoming environment.
We don’t treat any of this as one-off programming. Each experience is part of a longer conversation, carefully documented and designed to grow over time -- so the community is woven into the narrative.
At its core, Janya is about showing what’s possible: not just in terms of who gets seen, but how we create space for artists and audiences to meet one another with clarity and curiosity.
There’s more ahead, and endless ideas we can't wait to explore. For now, we’re starting where we are — with a clear vision, strong support, and a lot of passion!
Janya is still growing — but every part of this is intentional, as we hope to engage connoisseurs and long-time supporters, while creating space for the next generation & new audiences to connect and explore. If this resonates with you, we hope you’ll follow along, attend an event (and come back for more), and share this work with others who care about the future of the arts.
